Svend Aage Holm Sørensen attrib. table lamp
This rare table lamp is attributed to Svend Aage Holm Sørensen and produced by Boréns in Sweden during the 1950s. The lamp is made of brass and black lacquered metal, illustrating Holm Sørensen’s distinctive sculptural approach to mid-century lighting design.
The composition features a concave brass reflector supported by an angled stem, which incorporates a black lacquered section that visually balances the form. The large, slightly domed metal shade is perforated along the top to diffuse heat and emit a subtle halo of light. The underside is finished in white, creating a soft and even illumination. The brass cup-shaped housing and black-painted details establish a dynamic contrast typical of Holm Sørensen’s expressive yet functional style.
Svend Aage Holm Sørensen (1913–2004) was a Danish designer and lighting manufacturer known for his inventive treatment of metal surfaces and sculptural silhouettes. His work from the 1950s often combined industrial precision with artistic experimentation, resulting in luminaires that bridged modern design and handcrafted artistry.
This example remains in good vintage condition with minor signs of use, including light surface wear and patina consistent with age. The brass retains a warm tone and the lacquered finish shows small traces of handling without significant loss.
