Svend Aage Holm Sørensen floor lamp
This rare floor lamp was designed by Svend Aage Holm Sørensen and produced by Holm Sørensen & Co in Denmark during the 1950s. The piece reflects the Scandinavian modernist design language of the period, characterized by a refined minimalism and an emphasis on material expression.
The lamp features a slender brass stem resting on a tripod base, constructed from brass tubing with clean linear geometry. The base is both functional and visually light, contributing to the lamp’s balanced proportions. The surface of the brass shows signs of oxidation and patina consistent with age, adding depth to the material’s character.
The original lampshade, preserved in good condition, is executed in a light fabric that diffuses the light evenly. When lit, the shade provides a warm, ambient glow, complementing the natural tones of the brass structure.
Svend Aage Holm Sørensen (1913–2004) was a Danish designer renowned for his explorations in lighting design, often experimenting with surface treatments and sculptural forms. This lamp, however, represents his more restrained and architectural approach, making it an important example of Scandinavian mid-century lighting.
