Information

This very rare floor lamp with an integrated side table was designed by Svend Aage Holm Sørensen and produced by Holm Sørensen & Co. in Denmark during the 1950s. The piece exemplifies mid-century Scandinavian lighting design, skillfully combining utilitarian function with sculptural form and refined materials.

The lamp’s structure consists of a brass tubular frame that forms both the vertical support and a tripod base. One upright leg extends diagonally upward, creating an elongated and dynamic silhouette. Attached midway on the frame is a floating teak shelf, triangular with softened corners and an inset slot that accommodates the vertical tube. The teak shows a well-developed patina and visible grain texture, with wear consistent with age and use. This shelf provides a practical surface while balancing the visual weight of the lamp within the composition.

The conical lampshade is crafted from black lacquered metal with a flared opening, complemented by a teak finial at the rear that reinforces the dialogue between natural and industrial materials. The shade is mounted on a pivoting brass joint, enabling adjustable directional lighting. Inside, the shade shows light scuffing and wear typical of its vintage. The electrical cable discreetly exits through a curved section of the lowest tube, preserving the lamp’s clean, sculptural lines.

Svend Aage Holm Sørensen was a prominent Danish designer noted for his expressive and often playful lighting designs, which frequently explored geometric forms, material contrasts, and rich patinas. Holm Sørensen & Co., closely linked to his work, earned recognition for quality metal craftsmanship and small-scale production.

The lamp measures 25 cm wide, 50 cm deep, and 145 cm high (approximately 9.8 by 19.7 by 57.1 inches).
