Information

This rare and sculptural floor lamp was designed by Danish designer Svend Aage Holm Sørensen and produced by Holm Sørensen & Co. in Denmark during the 1950s. Known for his distinctive approach to lighting design, Holm Sørensen created pieces that merged functional lighting with striking architectural forms, often incorporating high-quality materials and bold geometric shapes. This model is a particularly refined example of his work from the early postwar period, demonstrating a careful balance between utility, craftsmanship, and aesthetic experimentation.

The lamp features a slender, asymmetrical brass structure set on three elegantly angled legs that provide both visual lightness and structural stability. At its center, a teak shelf is integrated into the design, serving as a small functional surface while visually grounding the composition. Above, the lamp is crowned with a sharply conical shade in deep red lacquered metal, accented by a teak finial, creating a warm contrast between the organic wood and the cool, industrial metal. The shade is adjustable, allowing the light to be directed as needed, which makes the piece not only decorative but also highly practical.

Svend Aage Holm Sørensen was one of the most innovative Danish lighting designers of the mid-century era, known for his sculptural and expressive forms that often pushed the boundaries of conventional lamp design. Holm Sørensen & Co., active throughout the mid-20th century, was a leading Danish lighting manufacturer recognized for producing experimental yet finely crafted pieces that are now sought-after examples of Scandinavian modernism. This lamp captures the optimism and forward-looking spirit of 1950s design, combining natural materials with modern industrial techniques.

The piece remains in good vintage condition, with visible signs of use and a beautiful patina that testifies to its age and authenticity. The brass retains its original finish, and the red lacquered shade shows minor wear consistent with decades of use, adding depth and character to the overall appearance.
