Svend Aage Holm Sørensen floor lamp
This rare floor lamp was designed by Svend Aage Holm Sørensen and produced by Holm Sørensen & Co in Denmark during the 1950s. It is composed of a sculptural teak frame with tapered legs joined by a brass cross-brace, supporting an elongated opal glass shade in a distinctive soft blue tone. The form is both architectural and organic, with the tall, slender silhouette characteristic of mid-century Scandinavian lighting design.
Svend Aage Holm Sørensen was a prominent Danish designer known for his explorations of material contrasts and light diffusion. His work often combined natural woods with metals and glass, resulting in lighting pieces that balanced functionality with strong sculptural presence. Holm Sørensen & Co became one of the leading Danish lighting manufacturers of the period, producing designs that contributed significantly to the international recognition of Scandinavian modernism.
The lamp is in good vintage condition with signs of use consistent with its age, including a gentle patina to the brass and minor wear to the wood and glass. It stands as a refined example of post-war Danish design, merging craftsmanship with innovative form and materiality.
