Tove Kindt-Larsen sofa
This two-seat sofa was designed by Tove Kindt-Larsen and produced by H. Skøtt-Jensen in Denmark in 1954. The piece exemplifies the refined simplicity and sculptural precision that characterize Danish mid-century furniture design. The frame is crafted in solid teak, with gently tapered legs and a Y-shaped side support structure that emphasizes the lightness and organic quality of the wood. The joinery and proportions reflect the influence of Danish cabinetmaking traditions, with a focus on natural materials and functional elegance.
The seat and backrest are newly reupholstered in a fine wool fabric in a neutral grey tone, which complements the warm reddish-brown hue of the teak. The fabric’s subtle weave texture adds depth to the surface while maintaining a restrained aesthetic. The slightly angled backrest and low profile create a relaxed seating position typical of Scandinavian lounge furniture from the 1950s. The buttons on the backrest and seat subtly articulate the upholstery, giving a rhythmic structure to the otherwise smooth surfaces.
Tove Kindt-Larsen, one of Denmark’s notable female designers of the mid-20th century, was known for her collaborative work with her husband Edvard Kindt-Larsen. Together they developed furniture and interiors characterized by balanced proportions, craftsmanship, and understated modernism. Their work contributed significantly to the shaping of Danish design identity during the post-war period, merging architectural precision with soft organic lines.
The sofa remains in good vintage condition with minor signs of use consistent with age. The teak frame shows light wear and has developed a natural patina, while the newly upholstered cushions present a fresh and clean appearance.
