Viggo Boesen easy chair
This very rare easy chair, model 107, attributed to Viggo Boesen and produced by Slagelse Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1940s, embodies Boesen’s distinctive aesthetic of soft, organic forms combined with functional comfort and sculptural presence. The chair’s frame is crafted from solid oak, featuring gracefully curved armrests that flow in a continuous motion, both supporting the structure and providing an elegant contrast to the plush upholstery.
The original deep red fabric upholstery remains intact, with a subtle texture that adds depth to the visual experience. The backrest is button-tufted, further enhancing the chair’s refined look. Its rounded shape transitions smoothly into the armrests, creating a cocooning effect that invites relaxation. Decorative piping along the seams accentuates the chair’s contours and adds an extra layer of craftsmanship. The sturdy oak legs are slightly tapered, with the rear legs set at a gentle outward angle for stability and stylistic balance.
As an early example of Danish modern design, this chair reflects Viggo Boesen’s influential role in defining the organic and sculptural qualities that became hallmarks of Scandinavian modernism. Its combination of elegant form and practical comfort positions it as a significant piece in mid-century furniture history.
