Viggo Boesen easy chairs
A rare and highly sought-after pair of easy chairs designed by Viggo Boesen and produced by E.V.A. Nissen & Co in Denmark in 1936. These chairs exemplify Boesen’s pioneering contribution to the Danish funkis and organic modernist movements, where structure, comfort, and natural form merge in perfect harmony.
Crafted from rattan and cane, the chairs display Boesen’s distinctive sculptural sensibility—curvaceous, inviting, and effortlessly elegant. Their fluid lines and airy construction evoke a sense of lightness while maintaining remarkable strength and stability. Every bend and weave of the rattan reflects the artisanal precision of Danish craftsmanship from the period, when natural materials were celebrated for both their aesthetic warmth and sustainable integrity.
Originally created during a time when modern design was still finding its expressive language, Boesen’s rattan works stood out for their playful softness and humanistic appeal—qualities that would later inspire icons such as Arne Jacobsen and Finn Juhl. These pieces embody his belief that furniture should feel organic and alive, with forms that invite relaxation and connection.
Both chairs remain in excellent vintage condition with minor signs of age and use, preserving a beautiful natural patina that enhances their authenticity and charm. Elegant, comfortable, and timeless, they are a quintessential representation of early Scandinavian modern design—equally fitting in a refined interior or a serene architectural space.
