Wall lamps

Information

Very rare wall lamps produced in Denmark during the 1950s. Four examples are available.

Each lamp has an elongated hourglass form constructed from brass sheet. Two tapered, asymmetrical shades meet at a narrow central waist, creating an architectural double-cone silhouette. The polished golden-brass exterior contrasts with the white-painted interior, which improves light reflection and produces a warmer, more diffuse illumination.

The open upper shade directs light toward the wall and ceiling, while the lower shade provides downward illumination. A sequence of narrow vertical perforations around the lower rim allows additional light to pass through, producing a repeated pattern of illuminated lines and shadows. The body is supported away from the wall by a short rectangular arm attached to a circular brass backplate.

The design belongs to the sculptural branch of 1950s Danish modern lighting, in which simple geometric forms were combined with carefully controlled indirect light. Its hourglass profile, restrained decoration and use of reflective brass are characteristic of Scandinavian lighting from this period.

Each lamp measures 18.5 × 22 × 43.5 cm, corresponding to approximately 7.3 × 8.7 × 17.1 inches.

The lamps are in good vintage condition with signs of use consistent with their age. The brass surfaces display scratches, small marks, oxidation, tonal variation and naturally developed patina. Minor wear is also visible around the edges, perforations and mounting components.
