Wine racks
This set of five wine racks or bottle stands, produced in Denmark during the 1950s, is a fine example of Scandinavian mid-century design focusing on functionality and understated elegance. Crafted from solid teak, each rack features a modular, open-frame construction with evenly spaced, rounded horizontal dowels specifically designed to hold wine bottles securely. The pieces can be used individually or combined to form a larger storage system, enhancing versatility.
The design emphasizes clean geometric lines and smoothly rounded edges, highlighting the natural warmth and grain of the teak wood. Precision joinery ensures durability and a seamless, refined appearance typical of Danish modern craftsmanship. Although the designer is unknown, the style and construction align closely with the principles of the Danish modern movement, celebrated for its blend of simplicity, practicality, and high-quality materials.
Each wine rack measures 12.5 cm (4.9 inches) in width, 30 cm (11.8 inches) in depth, and 49.5 cm (19.5 inches) in height. The set is in good vintage condition, exhibiting minor wear consistent with age and use, and remains a practical yet sculptural storage solution.
