Information

This rare coffee table was designed by Severin Hansen in the 1950s and produced by Haslev Møbelsnedkeri in Denmark. The piece is executed in rosewood, displaying a rich reddish-brown tone with a striking, expressive grain pattern characteristic of the species. The round tabletop is finely veneered, with the grain radiating across the surface, and framed by a discreetly profiled edge. The table rests on Hansen’s signature tapered legs, meeting the apron in precisely mitered joints—a detail that has become a hallmark of his work, emphasizing both craftsmanship and visual lightness.

The condition is good vintage, with a well-preserved surface showing signs of age and use in the form of a soft patina and minor marks consistent with decades of careful ownership. The rosewood retains its deep luster, and the joinery remains solid and true. The overall presentation highlights the table’s original finish and the quality of its materials.

Severin Hansen Jr. (1922–2002) was a Danish furniture designer renowned for his elegantly proportioned tables, many of which were produced by Haslev Møbelsnedkeri. His work is celebrated for its precise joinery, especially the angled leg-to-apron connections, and for its restrained, modernist aesthetic rooted in the Danish mid-century tradition. Haslev Møbelsnedkeri was known for producing high-quality, handcrafted furniture, often in luxurious woods such as rosewood and mahogany, catering to a discerning clientele during the golden age of Danish design.

Stylistically, this table embodies the principles of mid-century Scandinavian furniture—simplicity, refined craftsmanship, and the use of fine natural materials. Its combination of geometric clarity and warm, organic wood grain allows it to function equally well as a focal point in a living room or as a complementary piece in a broader interior scheme.

Dimensions: diameter 90 cm (35.43 inches), height 52 cm (20.47 inches).
