Information

This ceiling lamp is a rare example of Hans-Agne Jakobsson’s work from the 1960s, produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden. The fixture is constructed in solid brass with a warm, natural patina that reflects its age and careful preservation. The design features seven original hand-blown glass shades in a soft amber-yellow tone, giving the lamp a gentle and atmospheric light diffusion when illuminated. The geometric shades are slightly faceted with a subtle tapering neck, resting on pierced brass collars that add a decorative yet understated detail typical of Jakobsson’s refined approach to lighting design.

The structure is carefully engineered with a central vertical stem that distributes the seven arms evenly, creating a balanced radial composition. Each arm is finished with cylindrical brass holders supporting the glass shades. The glass is in excellent condition, showing no cracks or repairs, and the brass components have only minor surface marks consistent with age and use, preserving the authentic mid-century character of the piece.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was one of Sweden’s most prolific lighting designers, known for his ability to create atmospheric lighting that emphasized warmth and softness rather than harsh illumination. His designs often combined brass, glass, and wood, using layered materials to create diffused light. Founded in 1951, his company in Markaryd became an influential Scandinavian lighting manufacturer, producing pieces that are now sought after for their craftsmanship and timeless design.

This chandelier represents the mid-century Scandinavian aesthetic with its clean lines, functional elegance, and warm material palette. Its scale makes it suitable as a focal point in dining rooms, living areas, or entrance halls, and its use of multiple bulbs ensures a balanced and ambient light.
