Hans-Agne Jakobsson ceiling lamps
Rare ceiling lamps, model T-642, designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by his own company in Markaryd, Sweden during the 1950s. The model reflects Jakobsson’s refined approach to atmospheric lighting, where layered construction and material warmth are central elements.
The lamps are executed in brass and composed of a cylindrical, tiered shade built from a series of horizontal slats. These concentric rings create a structured, architectural form while also serving a functional purpose, diffusing the light and reducing glare. The brass surfaces have developed a natural patina over time, with visible signs of age that enhance the character and authenticity of the pieces.
The internal diffuser softens the light source, allowing it to glow evenly through the layered construction. When illuminated, the lamps emit a warm, ambient light that radiates gently between the slats, producing a subtle rhythm of light and shadow. This creates a calm and intimate atmosphere, typical of Jakobsson’s lighting designs, where the focus lies on mood rather than direct illumination.
The lamps are suspended from simple cords with minimalistic ceiling cups, allowing the sculptural quality of the shades to remain the focal point. Their relatively compact size makes them versatile, suitable for use in pairs over a table, in a hallway, or as accent lighting in a variety of interiors.
Both lamps remain in good vintage condition, with evident wear and patina to the brass consistent with age and use. These traces of time contribute to their visual depth and underline their mid-century origin.
