Hans-Agne Jakobsson ceiling lamp
A rare ceiling lamp designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden during the 1950s. The design reflects Jakobsson’s refined approach to lighting, where material contrast and controlled light diffusion are central elements.
The fixture is constructed in brass, featuring a compact central column from which a series of gently bent arms extend outward in a radial formation. Each arm supports a downward-facing conical shade in matte opaline glass. The shades are softly tapered, with a rounded termination, and are secured with small brass screws that introduce a subtle decorative accent while emphasizing the functional construction. The combination of warm-toned brass and opaque white glass creates a balanced and understated visual expression.
When illuminated, the opaline glass diffuses the light evenly, producing a warm and ambient glow with minimal glare. The clustered arrangement of the shades allows for a concentrated yet soft distribution of light, suitable for both general illumination and atmospheric settings. The internal structure and positioning of the light sources create a gentle gradient within each shade, enhancing the depth and character of the glass.
The lamp measures 52 cm in diameter and 53 cm in height, corresponding to approximately 20.5 inches in diameter and 20.9 inches in height. The condition is good, with minor signs of wear consistent with age and use. The brass surfaces show a natural patina, contributing to the overall authenticity and period character of the piece.
