Candlestick
This rare and substantial brass candlestick was produced in Denmark during the 1950s. The piece embodies the strong geometric and architectural tendencies of mid-century Scandinavian design, with a structure composed of precisely balanced horizontal and vertical elements.
The design features three staggered horizontal planes supporting nine candleholders, each with cylindrical sockets and concave drip plates. The entire construction rises from a wide, conical base, giving the composition both stability and visual rhythm. The proportional balance between the heavy base and the linear candle arms contributes to its sculptural presence, resembling the modernist approach to functional objects that blurred the boundary between utility and art.
Crafted entirely in solid brass, the candlestick exhibits a deep, naturally aged patina that enhances its warm, tactile surface. The original finish has developed characteristic variations over time, highlighting the quality of the material and its craftsmanship.
In good vintage condition, the piece shows signs of age and use consistent with its period, including minor surface marks and oxidation, which add depth and authenticity to its appearance.
