Johannes Andersen dining chairs
This rare set of eight dining chairs was designed by Johannes Andersen and produced by Chr. Linnebergs Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1960s. The chairs are a refined expression of Andersen’s sculptural approach to furniture design, characterized by soft organic lines, precise joinery, and a strong sense of craftsmanship.
Each chair is executed in solid rosewood, a material admired for its deep, expressive grain and natural luster. The backrests are formed by two gently curved horizontal rails that flow seamlessly into the rear legs, emphasizing both strength and elegance. The transitions between components are sculpted with remarkable sensitivity, displaying Andersen’s signature attention to detail and the fluidity of form typical of his mid-century works.
The seats have been newly reupholstered in a light wool fabric, providing a textural contrast to the dark rosewood frame. The wool’s neutral tone highlights the rich variations in the wood grain while complementing the chair’s minimalist geometry. The tapering legs and subtle ergonomic shaping of the seat contribute to a balanced and comfortable design.
These chairs exemplify the Danish modern tradition—functional yet sensuous, rooted in craftsmanship yet forward-looking in aesthetic. The set remains in excellent vintage condition with minor signs of age and use, showcasing a fine and well-preserved patina.
