Information

This set of six dining chairs, model 94, was designed by Johannes Andersen and produced by Chr. Linnebergs Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1960s. The design is a refined example of Scandinavian mid-century craftsmanship, characterized by organic lines, sculptural detailing, and precision joinery.

Each chair is made of solid rosewood, exhibiting a rich grain pattern and a deep tone that enhances the sculptural quality of the backrest. The back features Andersen’s signature open, curved form with two horizontal elements connected by an elegant, carved center section, creating a sense of lightness and continuity. The frames are finely tapered and softly contoured, contributing to both strength and visual delicacy.

The seats are upholstered in black leather, complementing the dark warmth of the rosewood. One chair has been reupholstered with new leather, while the others retain older leather in good vintage condition, showing small signs of wear consistent with age and use. The leather retains a smooth surface and subtle sheen, providing a refined contrast to the natural texture of the wood.

Johannes Andersen’s work is notable for merging sculptural elegance with functional restraint, and model 94 exemplifies this balance. The chairs display both aesthetic sophistication and ergonomic comfort, making them among his most recognizable and admired designs.

Dimensions: width 49 cm (19.3 in), depth 49 cm (19.3 in), height 78 cm (30.7 in), seat height 45 cm (17.7 in).
