Harald Notini table lamp
This rare table lamp was designed by Harald Notini and produced by Böhlmarks in Sweden during the mid-twentieth century. The lamp is executed in brass with a teak stem and a handle wrapped in natural leather, combining a refined material palette with functional detailing. Its wide, domed brass shade is designed to diffuse light evenly while emphasizing the lamp’s horizontal silhouette. The circular base, also in brass, is complemented by a small integrated switch, characteristic of Scandinavian lighting from this era.
The form reflects Notini’s background in both decorative arts and industrial design. His ability to combine sculptural presence with practical lighting solutions is evident here, where the domed brass shade balances delicacy with boldness, and the wrapped leather detail provides both visual texture and a tactile element. The use of teak adds warmth to the otherwise metallic composition, underscoring the Scandinavian affinity for natural materials.
Harald Notini (1900–1990) was a Swedish designer and lighting architect associated with Böhlmarks, one of the country’s most important lighting manufacturers during the early to mid-twentieth century. Notini’s designs often bridge the decorative traditions of earlier Swedish Grace and functionalist modernism, with a focus on proportion, materiality, and the atmospheric qualities of light. This lamp is an example of his ability to merge craft-based detailing with modernist principles, making his work highly regarded within Scandinavian design history.
The lamp is in excellent vintage condition with minor signs of use and a naturally developed patina that enhances the surface character of the brass.
