Information

This rare bar cabinet from the 1960s is a distinctive example of Scandinavian mid-century modern design, integrating refined materials with a geometrically balanced structure. The cabinet is executed in rosewood with pronounced figuring and rich reddish-brown hues, combined with chromed steel elements that emphasize a modernist, industrial vocabulary.

The upper cabinet is rectangular in form and features two front doors clad in rosewood veneer arranged in a symmetrical bookmatched pattern. The doors meet at a central circular chrome handle, which serves as both a functional grip and a visual anchor, offering a bold contrast to the organic grain of the wood. The veneer is precisely aligned in a quadrant layout that radiates from the center, demonstrating a high level of craftsmanship.

Inside, the cabinet reveals a thoughtfully organized storage system. The doors are fitted with curved bottle racks secured with horizontal chrome bars, while the interior is divided into asymmetrical compartments with dark stained finishes and veneered borders. Below the main cabinet section is a retractable tray with a black laminate or lacquered surface designed for preparing and serving drinks. This surface extends outwards on concealed glides for functional access.

The cabinet stands elevated on four slender chromed steel rods, which pass through a lower rosewood plinth that mirrors the proportions of the upper section. The contrast between the vertical steel elements and horizontal wooden volumes provides both stability and a dynamic interplay of materials.

Although the designer is not identified in the available documentation, the construction quality and detailing suggest a Scandinavian origin, possibly Danish or Swedish, aligning with the stylistic innovations of the period. The use of rosewood and chrome, as well as the focus on functional internal features, is consistent with the aesthetics of the 1960s cocktail culture and the increasing formal sophistication of domestic interiors.

The piece remains in very good vintage condition with minor signs of wear, including light surface markings and a subtle patina on the steel. All compartments and mechanisms appear intact and operational.

Dimensions are 80 cm wide, 42.5 cm deep, and 131 cm high, which corresponds to approximately 31.5 inches wide, 16.7 inches deep, and 51.6 inches high.
