Information

This is a rare ceiling pendant lamp, model number 11326, produced in Sweden during the 1940s by Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik, a historically significant Swedish lighting manufacturer known for its functional yet refined design approach during the early to mid-20th century. Böhlmarks, established in the late 19th century, was influential in the Scandinavian lighting industry, particularly for its early adoption of modernist design principles in lighting production.

The lamp is constructed from brass and features a wide, shallow conical shade that gently tapers upwards. The surface is aged with a warm patina, consistent with its age, contributing to its authentic vintage character. A precise series of vertical perforations encircles the edge of the brass shade, which serves both as a decorative motif and a practical ventilation detail. These slits allow subtle light emission when the lamp is lit, creating an ambient ring of illumination along the circumference.

The underside of the lamp is closed with a frosted glass diffuser that provides soft, diffused light. The central brass finial on the glass adds a visual balance and functional securing element. The brass canopy and suspension rod are original, and the lamp hangs with proportion and stability.

The condition is good, with signs of surface oxidation and age-related wear visible in the form of patination and minor spotting across the brass components, which are consistent with careful use over time and add to the piece’s vintage integrity.

This lamp is representative of Swedish functionalist style, combining precision in metalwork with elegant, unobtrusive design, in line with the Scandinavian modern ethos of the mid-20th century. Its combination of industrial craftsmanship and atmospheric light emission places it firmly within the context of refined postwar Nordic lighting design.

The dimensions of the lamp are 46 cm in diameter and 82 cm in height, which corresponds to approximately 18.1 inches in diameter and 32.3 inches in height.
