Information

This very rare ceiling lamp, model T261/8, was designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden during the 1960s. The lamp represents a distinctive phase in Scandinavian lighting design where architectural clarity, modular construction, and refined material treatment were combined with carefully controlled light distribution.

The construction is executed entirely in brass, with a long horizontal bar supporting eight cylindrical light units arranged symmetrically along the axis. Each cylinder houses a recessed light source combined with a concentric internal diffuser structure, creating a layered, circular pattern that softens and directs the light downward while minimizing glare. The brass surfaces have a warm golden tone, characteristic of Jakobsson’s work from this period, and interact subtly with the light, producing a restrained yet atmospheric illumination. The overall form is strictly geometric, emphasizing balance, rhythm, and linearity.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson was known for his experimental approach to light diffusion and his preference for warm, reflective metals, particularly brass. Trained as an interior architect, he developed lighting concepts that prioritized indirect and glare-free light, often using complex internal constructions rather than visible shades. His production in Markaryd became internationally recognized during the 1950s and 1960s, with many models exported worldwide and used in both private and public interiors. The T261/8 model is among the rarer, larger-scale ceiling fixtures from his output, reflecting a more architectural and spatially commanding approach.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB was one of Sweden’s most important lighting manufacturers during the mid-20th century, known for high-quality craftsmanship and technically advanced solutions. The company collaborated closely with Jakobsson himself, allowing for precise execution of his designs and consistent material standards. Fixtures from this manufacturer are today regarded as important examples of Scandinavian modern lighting history.

The lamp is in good vintage condition and has been fully restored. The brass shows small signs of age and use, consistent with its period, while maintaining a well-preserved and even surface. All electrical components have been restored to ensure proper functionality, while preserving the original design and construction.

The dimensions of the lamp are approximately 210 cm in length, 48.5 cm in width, and 93 cm in total height, corresponding to about 82.7 inches by 19.1 inches by 36.6 inches. The substantial scale makes it suitable for larger rooms, dining areas, or architectural interiors where both functional lighting and sculptural presence are desired.
