Boréns wall lamp

Information

A very rare wall lamp produced by Boréns in Borås, Sweden during the 1950s, executed entirely in brass and characteristic of Scandinavian mid-century lighting with subtle decorative detailing and refined craftsmanship.

The lamp features a compact, bell-shaped shade with a softly flared lower edge, giving it an elegant and slightly organic silhouette. The surface is perforated with a fine pattern of small, evenly distributed holes, allowing light to escape through the metal and creating a delicate, atmospheric effect when illuminated. The brass retains a warm golden tone with a gentle, natural sheen, showing only minimal signs of age.

The shade is mounted on a curved brass arm that extends outward from a circular wall plate, forming a clean and balanced profile. The arm terminates in an adjustable joint, allowing the shade to be angled as desired. Beneath the wall mount, a slender pull rod with a small circular brass weight provides a functional and visually integrated switch, reinforcing the lamp’s thoughtful design.

When lit, the perforations cast a scattered pattern of light across the surrounding wall, producing a soft, almost star-like effect that contrasts with the more concentrated downward glow from the open base of the shade. This interplay between direct and diffused light gives the lamp both functional and decorative qualities.

The lamp remains in excellent condition, with very light wear and a well-preserved surface. The brass components are clean and consistent, and the mechanism functions as intended.

Dimensions: shade diameter 13 cm (5.1 in), shade height 15.5 cm (6.1 in).
