Wall lamps

Information

This set of wall lamps was produced in Denmark during the 1950s and is most likely attributable to Lyfa, one of the prominent Danish lighting manufacturers of the mid-century period. The design reflects the restrained functionalism and material clarity associated with Danish modern lighting, where proportion, surface treatment, and light diffusion were given equal importance.

Each lamp is constructed in brass with two symmetrically arranged light points extending from a central round wall plate. The arms are gently curved, forming a balanced horizontal composition that supports two conical brass lamp holders. The brass has developed a warm, deep golden tone with areas of darker oxidation and visible surface variation consistent with age. The wall plate shows natural patination and subtle discoloration along the lower edge, reinforcing the authenticity of the material. The brass components display minor wear and small surface marks from use, without structural compromise.

The shades are made of opaline glass in a softly tapered cylindrical form, widening slightly toward the top. The glass is matte and evenly diffused, appearing white when unlit and emitting a warm, uniform glow when illuminated. The transition between brass and glass is defined by a clean circular brass collar, which visually anchors the shade to the holder. When lit, the lamps provide a soft ambient light directed both upward and outward, creating a balanced wall illumination with gentle light dispersion above and below the fixture.

Lyfa, founded in Denmark in the early 20th century, became particularly influential during the 1940s and 1950s through collaborations with leading Danish designers and through its commitment to high manufacturing standards. The company’s production emphasized precision metalwork and carefully controlled light diffusion, often using brass and opal glass in combinations similar to this model. While the specific designer of this pair remains unidentified, the formal language and construction details align closely with Lyfa’s mid-century output.

The overall dimensions are 34 cm in width, 17.5 cm in height, and 18 cm in depth, corresponding to approximately 13.4 inches in width, 6.9 inches in height, and 7.1 inches in depth. The lamps remain in good vintage condition with visible signs of usage and a well-developed patina on the brass surfaces. The opaline glass shades are intact and evenly toned, contributing to the fixture’s preserved functional and aesthetic integrity.
