Lyfa ceiling lamp
Very rare six-arm ceiling lamp produced by Lyfa in Denmark during the 1950s. The lamp is executed in brass with opaline glass shades and represents the refined Scandinavian interpretation of mid-century decorative lighting, where restrained ornamentation is combined with elegant organic lines and balanced proportions.
The structure is composed of six symmetrically arranged curved brass arms extending from a circular central body with decorative looping details along the perimeter. The brass has developed a warm golden patina over time, giving the surface a softer and more subdued character consistent with age and material oxidation. Each arm terminates in a sculptural gallery with repeated loop-form detailing supporting handblown opaline glass shades. The shades are executed in white opaline glass with softly rounded tulip-like silhouettes, diffusing the light evenly and producing a warm ambient illumination characteristic of Scandinavian lighting from the period.
Lyfa was among the most influential Danish lighting manufacturers of the mid-20th century and became known for collaborations with several important Scandinavian designers and architects. During the postwar decades, the company produced lighting that combined modernist functionality with traditional craftsmanship and decorative metalworking. This chandelier reflects that transition between decorative classicism and emerging Scandinavian modernism through its balanced use of curved brass forms, understated ornament, and diffused light.
The lamp remains in good vintage condition with minor signs of usage and age-related wear to the brass surfaces. The opaline glass shades are well preserved and the construction appears stable and complete. The overall impression is consistent with careful use and preservation over several decades.
