Børge Mogensen dining chairs
This set of six dining chairs and two armchairs was designed by Børge Mogensen and produced by Søborg Møbler in Denmark during the 1950s. The chairs are constructed with molded teak plywood seats and backrests, paired with a tubular steel frame. The teak exhibits a warm brown hue with visible wood grain, complementing the industrial character of the steel frame, which has a slightly aged patina. The design follows the functionalist principles that define Scandinavian modernism, prioritizing simplicity, comfort, and high-quality craftsmanship. The seat and backrest are ergonomically shaped, with the armchairs featuring additional teak arm supports mounted on the steel frame. The structure is stable and lightweight, demonstrating Mogensen’s preference for practical yet aesthetically refined furniture.
Børge Mogensen was a leading figure in Danish design, known for his commitment to durable, functional, and timeless furniture. His work often focused on human-centered design, ensuring that pieces were both visually pleasing and built for everyday use.
Søborg Møbler, the producer, was one of Denmark’s prominent furniture manufacturers, recognized for their expertise in woodworking and their collaborations with renowned designers. This set represents mid-century Scandinavian design, embodying the era’s focus on material integrity and straightforward construction. The condition of the chairs is consistent with their age, with signs of use that contribute to their vintage character.
The dimensions of the dining chairs are 50 cm wide, 48 cm deep, and 75.5 cm high (19.7 x 18.9 x 29.7 inches), with a seat height of 42 cm (16.5 inches).
