Hans-Agne Jakobsson floor lamps

This rare pair of floor lamps, designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by his company in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1970s, showcases Jakobsson’s distinctive approach to lighting design. These lamps emphasize warm, atmospheric light and high-quality materials within the context of Scandinavian modernism, combining functionality with aesthetic elegance.

Each lamp features a slender brass column extending from a circular, polished brass base. The structure is minimally ornamented, with a geometric support detail beneath the shade, highlighting clean lines and balanced proportions. The original fabric lampshades are adorned with a floral motif, set against a cream-colored background and featuring botanical illustrations in muted greens, reds, and blues. The slightly flared shape of the shades enhances the diffusion of light, creating a soft, ambient glow, which is a signature feature of Jakobsson’s designs.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009), a renowned Swedish designer and lighting manufacturer, was known for his innovative use of materials and his ability to create lighting that was both functional and atmospheric. Trained as an architect and having worked for Carl Malmsten and Werner West, Jakobsson founded his own company, Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB, in Markaryd in the 1950s. His work often explored the interplay between natural materials and light diffusion, making his lamps highly sought after for their warm illumination and sculptural quality.

These lamps remain in their original condition, with visible patina on the brass components, which adds to their vintage appeal. The lampshades show some signs of aging but retain their original structure and fabric, preserving the unique floral pattern.

Each lamp stands at 142 cm (55.9 inches) in height with a shade diameter of 55 cm (21.7 inches), making them both functional light sources and elegant, sculptural pieces suitable for various interior settings.
