Thelma Zoéga
Thelma Zoéga (1922–2014) was a Swedish businesswoman associated with the Zoégas coffee company in Helsingborg. A granddaughter of the company’s founders, Carlos and Maria Zoéga, she belonged to the third generation of the family involved in the business.
Biography
Zoéga was born in 1922, the daughter of Rudolf Zoéga. She later became involved in the family coffee company, which had been founded in Helsingborg in 1886 and developed into one of Sweden’s best-known coffee brands.
Zoéga is also associated with a distinctive set of brass candlesticks created in connection with the company’s 90th anniversary in 1976. Produced in collaboration with Götpapper AB, the candlesticks were made in three graduated sizes and feature simple cylindrical forms in solid brass, marked with the Zoégas emblem.
The restrained geometric design reflects the functional simplicity characteristic of Scandinavian design during the period. Today, the candlesticks are among the objects most commonly associated with Thelma Zoéga’s name and regularly appear on the Scandinavian vintage market.
