Tingströms side table

Information

This small side table was produced in Sweden during the 1950s by Tingströms, a manufacturer known for its contributions to Swedish mid-century modern furniture. Though the designer remains unknown, the piece embodies the era’s Scandinavian design principles, focusing on material quality, minimalism, and practical functionality.

The tabletop is crafted from solid teak, displaying a warm, clear tone and straight grain that provides a natural and tactile surface. The rectangular top is adorned with four flush-set circular brass inlays, which serve as understated decorative details and visually connect the top to the supporting frame. These brass elements are subtly recessed, creating a gentle contrast with the golden-brown teak surface.

Supporting the table are four cylindrical legs made of black lacquered metal. These legs are visually light yet structurally stable, each finishing with a small adjustable brass foot. These feet offer balance on uneven flooring while echoing the brass inlays on the tabletop, adding a refined detail to the design.

The table is in good overall condition, showing minor wear consistent with age and use. The wood exhibits a lightly aged patina, and the brass has developed a mild, even tarnish. The lacquered metal legs retain their original finish with slight signs of wear.

Tingströms, based in Tranås, Sweden, was active throughout the mid-20th century and collaborated with several designers to produce furniture for both residential and commercial interiors.

The table measures 60 centimeters wide, 47 centimeters deep, and 53.5 centimeters high (approximately 23.6 by 18.5 by 21.1 inches).
