Side table
Rare and possibly unique Danish Art Deco side or coffee table, produced in the 1930s. The table presents a refined and architectonic composition, combining noble materials with a restrained yet sculptural structural design.
The circular top is executed in green marble, richly patterned with deep forest tones, lighter sage hues, and contrasting veins in white and dark mineral inclusions. The stone has a vivid, organic surface movement, characteristic of high-quality European marble used during the interwar period. The edge is gently rounded, giving the substantial slab a softened profile while maintaining its visual weight.
The base consists of solid brass legs with a warm, naturally aged patina. The vertical cylindrical legs are evenly spaced and connected by a circular brass stretcher near the floor, creating a rhythmic colonnade effect. This lower ring both stabilizes the construction and reinforces the strict geometric language typical of Danish Art Deco. The contrast between the cool, expressive marble and the warm brass structure results in a balanced interplay of materials, texture, and tone.
The design reflects the Danish interpretation of Art Deco, where ornamentation is reduced and emphasis is placed on proportion, material quality, and craftsmanship. The architectural clarity and honest construction suggest a cabinetmaker or small workshop production, and the table may well have been produced as a bespoke commission.
The diameter measures 60 cm (23.6 inches), and the height is 42.5 cm (16.7 inches).
The table remains in good vintage condition with signs of usage consistent with age. The marble top shows some minor nicks along the lower rim, and the brass has developed a natural patina over time. The structure is stable and well preserved.
