Børge Mogensen easy chairs
This is a pair of model 2207 easy chairs designed by Børge Mogensen and produced by Fredericia Stolefabrik in Denmark during the 1960s. These armchairs are representative of Mogensen’s commitment to timeless design, high functionality, and exceptional craftsmanship. Executed in walnut and upholstered in black leather, the chairs display a refined, understated aesthetic rooted in the Danish modern tradition.
The form is defined by clear geometry and careful proportions. The arms taper inward with a soft curve, providing both structural definition and ergonomic support. The outer surfaces are clean and linear, contrasting with the subtly angled rear legs and the gentle slope of the seat back. The seat and back cushions are fully upholstered in black leather, which has developed a natural patina with signs of use, including creasing and light surface wear. The internal frames are built to a high standard, using solid walnut legs that provide a stable base and warm tonal contrast to the dark leather.
Børge Mogensen (1914–1972) was one of Denmark’s most influential furniture designers and a central figure in the evolution of functional modern furniture in the post-war period. His work reflects a belief in democratic design—accessible, well-made furniture suited to everyday use. Model 2207 is part of a broader series of lounge seating he designed for Fredericia, characterized by restrained elegance, longevity, and comfort. Fredericia Stolefabrik was Mogensen’s primary production partner and became known internationally for producing high-quality, architecturally minded furniture under his direction.
These chairs remain in good vintage condition. The leather shows wear and patina consistent with age, and the walnut legs exhibit minor scuffing but retain their structural solidity and warm finish. The original maker’s label, including Danish Furnituremakers Control certification, is present, indicating the authenticity and quality of production.
Each chair measures 70 cm in width (27.6 inches), 80 cm in depth (31.5 inches), and 80 cm in height (31.5 inches), with a seat height of 40 cm (15.7 inches). The model 2207 is ideal for both private and public interiors, offering a lasting expression of Scandinavian design principles through its careful synthesis of form, function, and material.
