Information

This rare set of three easy chairs, model 501, was designed by Kai Lyngfeldt Larsen and produced by Søborg Møbler in Denmark during the 1950s. The chairs are executed in solid teak with original black vinyl upholstery and exemplify the refined simplicity and craftsmanship characteristic of Danish mid-century design. The construction demonstrates a precise balance between structural integrity and visual lightness, a hallmark of Lyngfeldt Larsen’s work.

Each chair features a low, wide seat supported by a sculptural teak frame with turned legs and rounded joints. The backrest is composed of evenly spaced vertical slats enclosed within cylindrical uprights, creating a geometric rhythm that emphasizes both stability and transparency. The cushions are upholstered in high-quality black vinyl, original to the pieces, which complements the deep, warm tone of the teak. The leather-like surface introduces a subtle contrast in texture, highlighting the interplay between organic material and modern industrial finish. The chairs bear the Danish Furnituremakers’ Control mark and Søborg Møbler label, certifying authenticity and quality craftsmanship.

Kai Lyngfeldt Larsen (1920–2001) belonged to the generation of Danish designers who emerged during the golden age of Scandinavian modernism. Educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, he worked alongside contemporaries such as Børge Mogensen and Arne Vodder, sharing a dedication to functionalism, fine materials, and craftsmanship. His designs often combine architectural rigor with an understated sculptural sensibility.

This set remains in good vintage condition with a rich patina developed through age and use. The teak frames display even coloration and fine grain, while the original upholstery shows minor wear consistent with time. The set stands as an elegant representation of mid-century Scandinavian design, merging precision, functionality, and enduring material beauty.

Dimensions: 55 x 72 x 69 cm, seat height 38 cm (21.7 x 28.3 x 27.2 in, SH 15 in).
