Paavo Tynell floor lamp
This very rare floor lamp, model 9602, also known as the “Chinese Hat” was designed by Paavo Tynell and produced by Taito Oy in Finland during the 1950s. It is a distinguished example of Scandinavian mid-century design, showcasing Tynell’s mastery of combining elegant materials with functional artistry.
The lamp features a slender brass stem wrapped in finely woven cane, a signature detail that adds warmth, texture, and a tactile quality to the piece. The circular brass base ensures stability while maintaining a graceful, lightweight appearance. The distinctive conical fabric lampshade, inspired by traditional Asian headwear, diffuses light softly, contributing to a warm and inviting atmosphere. Below the shade, a square brass fitting embossed with the “Taito” mark confirms its authenticity.
