Ceiling lamp
This rare ceiling lamp, designed by an unknown designer and produced in Sweden during the 1960s, features a striking sculptural composition that exemplifies the bold, innovative spirit of mid-century Scandinavian lighting design. The lamp consists of four conical shades made from lacquered metal, each perforated with a uniform pattern of small circular holes. This design element allows light to diffuse softly, creating a warm and ambient lighting effect when illuminated.
The shades are finished in a combination of muted grey, vibrant yellow, deep red, and dark blue, providing a visually engaging contrast and adding a pop of color to the overall design. The shades are suspended from a brass canopy by twisted fabric cords, adding an additional layer of texture and visual interest. A brass spiral structure connects the shades in a dynamic, asymmetrical arrangement, contributing to the lamp’s sculptural and modern aesthetic.
The brass components have developed a patina consistent with age, enhancing the vintage character of the lamp. The lacquered metal shades show minor signs of wear, including small scratches and marks, especially on the yellow shade. These imperfections are typical for a piece of this age and contribute to its authenticity and charm. Despite these signs of wear, the lamp remains in good vintage condition and retains its visual impact.
The dimensions of the lamp are as follows: a diameter of 50 cm (19.7 inches) and a height of 140 cm (55.1 inches), making it an ideal size for a variety of interior settings. This lamp serves as both a functional light source and a striking decorative object, adding a dynamic, sculptural element to any space.
