Uno & Östen Kristiansson ceiling lamp
Rare ceiling lamp model 555 designed by Uno and Östen Kristiansson and produced by Luxus in Vittsjö, Sweden during the 1960s. The model is a refined example of the Kristiansson brothers’ ability to combine architectural clarity with warm natural materials, characteristic of mid-century Swedish lighting.
The construction consists of two gently curved solid oak elements, one forming the ceiling canopy and the other resting above the diffuser. The oak has a warm, medium tone with a lively grain pattern that enhances the sculptural quality of the design. The wooden elements are connected by two slender suspension wires, creating a visually light and balanced composition where the shade appears to float in space.
The light source is enclosed in a horizontally oriented cylindrical white plastic diffuser. The softly rounded ends and smooth surface provide an even and glare-free light distribution. When lit, the diffuser emits a warm, uniform glow, while the oak top element subtly shades the upper portion, directing the light downward and outward. The contrast between the solid, organic oak and the clean, modern plastic cylinder reflects the innovative material combinations Luxus became known for during the 1960s.
The lamp is marked “Made in Sweden by Luxus Vittsjö,” confirming its origin and authenticity.
Width 70 cm (27.6 inches), depth 16,5 cm (6.5 inches), total height 94 cm (37 inches).
In good vintage condition with small signs of usage and minor wear consistent with age. The oak surfaces show light patina, and the plastic diffuser remains well preserved with only minimal surface wear.
