Information

This rare table lamp, designed by Harald Notini and produced by Böhlmarks in Sweden during the 1950s, exemplifies the restrained elegance and material richness associated with Swedish modernism in the postwar period. Notini, a key figure in Scandinavian lighting design, was known for his ability to merge neoclassical influences with modernist clarity—qualities that are clearly present in this piece.

The lamp features a softly rounded opaline glass shade in a milky white finish. This dome-shaped diffuser is designed to provide warm, even illumination, softening the light source and creating an ambient glow. The shade sits atop a slender, vertically fluted stem crafted from richly toned mahogany. The wood is finished to reveal its natural grain, adding warmth and a tactile contrast to the smoothness of the glass.

A polished brass base supports the structure, offering a reflective golden tone that enhances the overall composition. The brass is echoed in the upper finial, subtly tying the material palette together. The interplay between the dark wood, lustrous brass, and soft white glass reflects a high degree of craftsmanship and balance—hallmarks of Böhlmarks’ production during this era.

The lamp is in excellent vintage condition. The brass elements show minimal patina, consistent with age, while the mahogany and glass components are well-preserved and free from notable flaws. The structural integrity and finish quality remain intact, showcasing the enduring construction and attention to detail typical of Notini’s work.

Measuring 35 cm in diameter and 48 cm in height (13.8 x 18.9 inches), the lamp is well-scaled for use on desks, side tables, or credenzas, offering both functional lighting and decorative presence.

Harald Notini (1887–1969) was a prolific designer and artistic director at Böhlmarks, one of Sweden’s foremost lighting manufacturers. His designs often blended classical silhouettes with modern materials, resulting in pieces that are both timeless and distinctively Nordic. This table lamp is a rare and elegant example of that legacy, combining utility and beauty in a form that remains relevant and collectible today.
