Hans-Agne Jakobsson ceiling lamp
This is the ceiling lamp model T372/12 Patricia, designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1960s. The chandelier features twelve arms radiating from a central brass sphere, each terminating in a cylindrical brass socket that supports a smoked glass globe. The globes are evenly spaced to create a balanced, symmetrical arrangement, resulting in a striking, sculptural form when viewed from below. The polished brass surface reflects the light, adding depth and warmth to the composition.
Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was a prolific Swedish designer known for his mastery in creating atmospheric lighting. His designs often emphasized the interplay between light and shadow, aiming to produce soft, diffused illumination. The Patricia model is a prime example of his work with multiple-light chandeliers, showcasing his ability to combine functional lighting with an elegant and sculptural aesthetic.
This chandelier exemplifies mid-century Scandinavian modernism with its emphasis on clean geometry, quality materials, and a sense of visual harmony. The combination of brass and glass is both luxurious and understated, characteristic of Jakobsson’s approach to lighting design. The smoked glass globes temper the brightness of the bulbs, creating a warm and inviting light suitable for dining rooms, living spaces, or large entryways.
The piece is in good vintage condition with minor signs of wear on the brass surface, consistent with age and use. The glass globes remain intact and display their original light tint, contributing to the lamp’s warm light diffusion.
