Harald Notini table lamp
The very rare table lamp model 15339, designed by Harald Notini and produced by Böhlmarks in Sweden, is a refined example of Scandinavian modern lighting design, integrating sculptural form with high-quality materials and functional detailing. This particular version represents the larger variant of the model and includes a practical, top-mounted switch—a signature detail of Notini’s ergonomic sensibility.
The lamp is composed of a circular brass base supporting a slender, tapered stem in solid mahogany. The contrast between the rich, reddish-brown tone of the wood and the golden hue of the brass establishes a balanced visual harmony. The stem is finely turned with a smooth surface, showcasing the wood’s grain while gradually narrowing as it rises toward the shade. This subtle tapering contributes to the lamp’s vertical elegance and proportional clarity.
Crowning the structure is a wide, disc-shaped brass shade, finished with a soft patina that reveals its mid-century origin. The perimeter of the shade is punctuated by a ring of fine perforations, allowing subtle diffusion of light and contributing to the atmospheric quality of illumination. When lit, the brass reflects and softens the light both downward and laterally, enhancing its role as both task and ambient lighting. The shade’s aged surface exhibits a textured, oxidized character typical of vintage brass, adding visual depth and authenticity.
A distinguishing feature of this model is the integrated switch, located at the top of the shade. This functional detail blends seamlessly with the design while offering convenient control, reflecting Notini’s attention to user interaction and mechanical elegance.
The lamp is in excellent vintage condition. The brass components display a warm, uniform patina with minor age-related wear, while the mahogany stem is structurally sound and retains a rich, well-maintained finish. All materials are original and consistent with mid-20th-century Scandinavian craftsmanship.
Harald Notini (1879–1959), a prominent Swedish lighting and furniture designer, was known for his sophisticated yet restrained aesthetic. His work with Böhlmarks—one of Sweden’s leading lighting manufacturers—produced numerous designs that bridged the neoclassical heritage of Swedish interiors with the emerging principles of modernism. Model 15339 exemplifies this transition, offering both elegance and practicality in a unified form.
