Hans-Agne Jakobsson ceiling lamp

This ceiling lamp is model T-601, designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson in the 1960s and produced by his own firm, Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB, in Markaryd, Sweden. The lamp exemplifies Jakobsson’s distinct approach to lighting, which combined atmospheric softness with elegant decorative forms. Known for his prolific exploration of fringe, fabric, and filtered light, Jakobsson created designs that offered both visual warmth and material tactility.

The lamp features a circular brass canopy with a polished finish, from which cascades a tiered arrangement of fine silk fringes. The fringes are cream-colored and arranged in concentric layers, gradually diminishing in diameter toward the base. This structure not only conceals the light source but diffuses it gently through the textile material, creating a warm and soft ambient glow. The decorative brass crown at the top is pierced with evenly spaced notches, enhancing the interplay between the solid metal and the delicacy of the textile elements.

Viewed from below, the lamp reveals its inner brass reflector and a soft radial diffusion pattern produced by the fringed layers. The overall form is cylindrical, and its character changes subtly when lit, as the silk becomes translucent and emits a golden glow.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson was one of Sweden’s most influential lighting designers of the mid-20th century. His work often sought to reinterpret traditional lamp formats using modern materials and innovative lighting effects.

The lamp is in excellent condition, retaining both its original silk fringes and polished brass finish, with minimal wear. The dimensions are 28 cm in diameter and 33 cm in height for the shade itself, with an overall hanging height of 85 cm.
