Information

The rare ceiling lamp, model 11773, designed by Harald Notini and produced in the 1940s by Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik in Sweden, exemplifies the refined modernism that characterized Scandinavian lighting design in the early 20th century. This pendant light merges functional clarity with decorative subtlety, capturing the essence of Notini’s approach to modernist design.

The fixture consists of a slender, vertical suspension rod in brass that descends from a matching ceiling canopy to support a conical shade. The cone is formed in polished brass, with a smooth and luminous surface that reflects ambient light and enhances the warmth of its metallic tone. At the base of the cone, a scalloped edge introduces a delicate decorative element, providing a visual counterpoint to the otherwise sleek and geometric form.

Just above the scalloped edge, a series of evenly spaced vertical cutouts are integrated into the shade. These perforations allow light to filter out softly around the perimeter of the cone, contributing to an atmospheric glow that complements the primary downward illumination. The combination of direct and diffused light enhances both functionality and ambiance, making the lamp suitable for a range of interior settings, from dining and reading areas to entryways and accent lighting.

Harald Notini, an influential Swedish lighting designer and architect, was known for his restrained yet expressive forms and his work with premier Swedish manufacturers such as Böhlmarks. His designs often embraced simplicity with refined material detail, and model 11773 is a clear example of this philosophy—elegant in silhouette and practical in use.

Produced by Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik, one of Sweden’s foremost lighting companies during the first half of the 20th century, the lamp demonstrates high manufacturing standards and thoughtful detailing, traits that make it both collectible and enduringly relevant.

The dimensions of the lamp are 24.5 cm in diameter and 87 cm in total height. In imperial units, this corresponds to approximately 9.6 inches in diameter and 34.3 inches in height.
