Floor lamp
This rare floor lamp, produced in Sweden during the 1950s by an unknown designer, exemplifies the sculptural elegance and material restraint characteristic of Scandinavian modern lighting from the postwar period. With its combination of geometric form, soft light diffusion, and a careful mix of materials, the lamp stands as a well-composed and visually engaging lighting piece.
The lamp features a composition of three elongated, faceted shades that evoke the form of lanterns or petals. Each shade is cream-colored with a softly translucent surface that diffuses light gently, producing a warm and ambient glow. The faceted construction adds subtle dimension and rhythm to the design, while the uniform cream tone creates a calm and cohesive visual effect. The shades are evenly spaced to form a vertical cluster, contributing both sculptural presence and functional light distribution.
These shades are mounted on slender black metal rods that rise in parallel from a common base and taper slightly upward, creating a vertical emphasis. The rods converge into a tripod base that ensures stability and introduces a modern, architectural silhouette. A thin brass wrap encircles the central portion of the stem, providing a refined accent that contrasts with the dark metal and harmonizes with the soft cream of the shades. This brass element, now aged with a light patina, enriches the composition with a warm metallic detail without overwhelming the minimalist design.
Measuring 25 cm in diameter and 150 cm in height (approximately 9.8 inches by 59 inches), the lamp maintains a slender footprint while making a distinct impression through height and verticality. It is well-suited for placement in corners, beside seating areas, or as a sculptural lighting element in open-plan interiors.
The lamp is in good vintage condition, showing wear consistent with age. The brass section has developed a mild patina, and the shades remain structurally intact with no visible cracks, maintaining their uniform color and translucent effect.
Though the designer remains unidentified, the lamp clearly draws on Scandinavian design principles of the era—blending warmth, geometry, and atmospheric lighting into a unified object. It is a rare and well-preserved example of 1950s Swedish floor lighting, notable for its refined balance between material and form.
