Lisa Johansson-Pape floor lamps
This rare pair of floor lamps was designed by Lisa Johansson-Pape and produced by Orno in Finland during the 1950s, representing an important example of Scandinavian mid-century design. The lamps exhibit a slender vertical column elegantly wrapped in leather, which stands on a polished brass base. The combination of natural leather and metal emphasizes Johansson-Pape’s commitment to marrying functional utility with refined craftsmanship.
Each lamp is equipped with a tapered fabric lampshade that softly diffuses light, producing a warm and ambient glow characteristic of Nordic lighting design. The brass fittings, including the lamp holder and base, contrast subtly with the textured leather, reinforcing the visual and tactile warmth of the piece. The brass components have developed a natural patina over time, which attests to the lamps’ age and quality of materials.
Lisa Johansson-Pape was a prominent Finnish designer, celebrated for her pioneering work in lighting design. Her collaboration with Orno, one of Finland’s leading lighting manufacturers, helped define the aesthetic of modern Nordic interiors. Johansson-Pape’s work is noted for combining practicality with atmospheric qualities, a balance evident in this pair of lamps that remain relevant in contemporary contexts.
The lamps are in good condition, showing wear consistent with their age. This includes a natural patina on the brass and slight variations in the leather’s surface texture, which add character without compromising the overall integrity of the design.
