Information
An elegant Swedish table lamp produced by AB E. Hansson & Co in Malmö, Sweden, during the 1960s. Crafted from brass with a distinctive snakeskin imitation finish on the stem, the lamp combines refined Scandinavian modernist design with expressive materials and carefully considered functional details.

The lamp features a broad, gently sloping brass shade with a shallow conical profile and a warm golden surface. At its centre, a raised, perforated metal section introduces a decorative geometric pattern of small circular openings. When illuminated, these perforations allow points of light to shine through, creating a subtle ornamental effect that contrasts with the otherwise restrained appearance of the shade.

The shade is supported by two gracefully curved brass arms extending from the central lamp holder. Its adjustable construction allows the shade to be tilted, providing flexibility in directing the light while adding a sculptural quality to the overall design. The white interior of the shade reflects the light downward, producing a warm and comfortable illumination.

A particularly distinctive feature is the slender, slightly tapered stem, finished with a richly textured snakeskin imitation in deep reddish-brown tones. The patterned surface introduces an organic element that contrasts beautifully with the smooth, polished character of the brass components. This combination of materials gives the lamp a sophisticated and individual expression, characteristic of decorative Scandinavian lighting from the mid-20th century.

The stem rises from a substantial, circular brass base with a low, tapered profile, providing stability and visual balance. A small switch is positioned on the base for convenient operation. The brass surfaces have developed a warm, natural patina, with subtle variations in colour that enhance the lamp’s vintage character.

When illuminated, the lamp creates a soft, atmospheric light beneath the wide shade. The perforated upper section produces a delicate pattern of glowing points, adding a decorative dimension to its functional purpose. The adjustable shade allows the lamp to serve both as a practical source of light and as an expressive decorative object.

The lamp bears the manufacturer’s marking, AB E. Hansson & Co, Malmö, together with the model number 568 and the electrical specification 40 W, confirming its Swedish production.

The lamp remains in good vintage condition, with signs of age and use consistent with its period. The brass displays natural patination, minor surface scratches, and areas of discolouration, while the textured stem retains its characteristic appearance.

Diameter 35 cm (13.8 inches), height 42.5 cm (16.7 inches).
