Acton Bjørn & Vilhelm Lauritzen attrib. armchair
A very rare armchair attributed to Acton Bjørn and Vilhelm Lauritzen, produced by cabinetmaker Willy Beck in Denmark during the 1950s. This piece is an exceptional example of Danish mid-century craftsmanship, merging sculptural refinement with architectural precision.
Executed in richly grained rosewood and upholstered in its original cognac leather, the chair exemplifies the Danish modern ideal—organic form balanced by structural clarity. The frame is elegantly constructed with soft, flowing transitions between the backrest, arms, and legs, showcasing the cabinetmaker’s mastery in shaping solid wood into seamless contours. The backrest’s butterfly-like profile, accentuated by button tufting, lends both comfort and character, while the armrests curve inward with a distinctive sculptural gesture that feels almost hand-carved.
Produced by Willy Beck, one of Denmark’s most respected cabinetmakers, the chair reflects the impeccable standards and collaborative spirit that defined mid-century Danish furniture design—where architects and craftsmen worked closely to achieve both aesthetic and ergonomic excellence.
In good vintage condition with minor signs of age and use, the piece retains its original finish and patina, enhancing its authenticity and historical value.
