Andrea Bellosi table lamp
This very rare “Arc en Ciel” table lamp was designed by Andrea Bellosi and produced by Studio Alchimia in Italy during the 1980s. It stands as a striking example of postmodern Italian design, combining artistic flair with functional innovation. The lamp’s core is a cylindrical light source housed inside a rotating metal drum, allowing the user to adjust the direction and spread of light. This dynamic element is framed by two parallel slabs of white marble, creating a bold contrast with the industrial black and silver metal components. A discreet black knob at the base controls the rotation mechanism, enabling various angles for projecting light.
When lit, the lamp casts a colorful rainbow-like gradient onto surrounding surfaces, producing a captivating atmospheric effect. Studio Alchimia, established in the late 1970s by Alessandro Guerriero, was a leading force in Italian postmodernism, emphasizing artistic expression and experimental design. Andrea Bellosi, a key designer at Alchimia, was known for exploring light, color, and material interactions to create visually innovative objects.
The lamp is in good vintage condition, with minor wear typical for its age. The marble slabs feature natural veining, and the metal parts display a subtle patina that enhances the piece’s authenticity and character.
