Arne Norell easy chairs
This pair of easy chairs, model Inca, was designed by Arne Norell and produced by Arne Norell AB in Sweden during the 1960s. The frames are built from dark-stained beech, showcasing the wood’s natural grain while providing a sturdy base. The design features cylindrical legs and horizontal stretchers, forming a strong yet visually open structure. The seat and backrest are suspended by leather straps and brass fittings, a signature of Norell’s innovative approach to seating that offers flexibility and comfort.
Upholstered in deep green leather, the cushions are well-preserved with natural creasing that enriches their vintage appeal. The generously padded, segmented cushions include integrated headrests, while oversized armrests further contribute to the chairs’ relaxed and inviting character.
Arne Norell was a Swedish designer celebrated for combining traditional craftsmanship with rugged, functional aesthetics. His modular and sling-based designs aimed for maximum comfort without sacrificing style. The Inca model exemplifies this balance, merging luxury and practicality in a striking, ergonomic form.
The pair is in well-preserved vintage condition, showing minor wear consistent with age. Each chair measures 95 cm wide, 95 cm deep, and 90 cm high (37.4 x 37.4 x 35.4 inches), with a seat height of 40 cm (15.7 inches).
