Arne Norell easy chairs

This pair of Inca easy chairs with a matching side table, designed by Arne Norell and produced by Arne Norell AB in Sweden during the 1960s, exemplifies Scandinavian modern design with influences drawn from the safari chair tradition. The set combines organic materials and modular functionality, reflecting Norell’s focus on comfort and craftsmanship.

The chairs feature solid beechwood frames stained in a dark brown tone, offering both structural strength and an earthy aesthetic. The seats are suspended by a system of leather straps and brass buckles, a signature element in Norell’s work that allows for flexibility and ergonomic support. Upholstered in original thick cognac-brown leather, the cushions have developed a rich patina over time, adding character and depth. The layered cushions include a generously padded seat, backrest, and integrated headrest, all secured with visible stitching that enhances the artisanal quality.

Positioned between the chairs, the side table is crafted from rosewood, with a veneered top showcasing distinctive grain patterns. The table’s design integrates seamlessly with the chairs, following a modular approach that enables versatile arrangements. Arne Norell was renowned for his skillful exploration of material contrasts, blending traditional craftsmanship with modernist design principles.
