Arne Vodder dining / conference table
This is a unique and large-scale dining or conference table, a custom variation of model 212 designed by Danish architect and furniture designer Arne Vodder and produced by Sibast Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1950s. The table is constructed from richly grained rosewood and is characterized by its elongated oval shape, softly rounded ends, and refined joinery details that align with the clean, sculptural language of Scandinavian modernism.
The table features six extension leaves, each measuring 50 cm in width, which allow it to expand from a length of 350 cm to a total of 650 cm. This flexible configuration makes it highly suitable for both formal dining and large-scale meeting applications. The top surface exhibits an exceptional bookmatched rosewood veneer, with dynamic linear figuring and a warm reddish-brown tonal quality. A raised edge trim outlines the perimeter of the tabletop, adding a discreet visual border without disrupting the elegant surface flow.
The table rests on two sets of tapered round legs, each supported by structural stretchers in a squared configuration, ensuring stability across the full span. The leg placement and frame design are carefully considered to accommodate varying seating configurations, maximizing functionality while maintaining an uncluttered profile.
Arne Vodder (1926–2009) was a prominent Danish designer trained under Finn Juhl and known for his refined, architectural furniture. He often worked in rosewood and teak, creating pieces that were both formally expressive and functionally pragmatic. Vodder’s collaboration with Sibast Møbelfabrik was one of his most productive partnerships, and the model 212 line is emblematic of his restrained yet elegant design approach. While the standard versions of this table are already rare, this oversized custom variant is especially exceptional.
This table remains in good vintage condition with light surface wear and patina consistent with age and use. The rosewood exhibits a deep luster and the structural elements remain strong and stable.
Dimensions are 350 cm in length, expandable to 650 cm with six additional leaves, by 124 cm in depth, and 72 cm in height. In imperial units, the table measures approximately 137.8 inches (extended to 255.9 inches) long, 48.8 inches deep, and 28.3 inches high.
