Information

This rare and finely crafted extendable dining table, model 201, was designed by Arne Vodder and produced by Sibast Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1960s. The table exemplifies the refined craftsmanship and elegant materiality characteristic of Scandinavian mid-century modern furniture, particularly evident in its richly figured rosewood veneer and precise construction details.

The tabletop showcases beautifully grained rosewood with a symmetrical bookmatched pattern that extends across the entire surface. The rosewood displays deep, warm tones ranging from chocolate brown to golden amber, accentuated by linear black striations. The wood’s natural tactility and tonal depth are preserved by an oil finish that enhances its visual richness without sacrificing authenticity.

Structurally, the table is supported by four tapered legs joined to the frame with exposed tenons, lending it a stable yet visually light presence. It features a smooth, integrated extension mechanism with two concealed leaves, each measuring 50 cm in width. This allows the table to extend from 200 cm to a maximum of 300 cm, maintaining a flush surface and continuous grain pattern when opened.

The table remains in excellent condition, with the rosewood surface well preserved and showing only minor signs of age-consistent use. The extension mechanism operates smoothly, and all joints are tight and original. The piece has not been restored and retains its original finish and patina.

Arne Vodder, a Danish architect and designer trained under Finn Juhl, was a leading figure in postwar Scandinavian design. He is celebrated for his understated elegance, organic details, and commitment to form and function. His collaborations with Sibast Møbelfabrik produced some of his most acclaimed designs, balancing modernist purity with natural expressiveness.

Sibast Møbelfabrik was a prominent Danish furniture manufacturer during the 1950s and 60s, known for high-quality materials and meticulous craftsmanship. Their partnership with Vodder ensured that his designs were realized to exacting standards.

The table measures 200 cm in length when closed and extends to 300 cm with the two leaves. The width is 103.5 cm, and the height is 71.5 cm. In imperial units, this corresponds approximately to 78.7 inches in length (118.1 inches extended), 40.7 inches wide, and 28.1 inches high.
