Arne Vodder dining table
This is a rare dining table, model 227, designed by Arne Vodder and produced by Sibast Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the mid-20th century. The table is crafted from richly grained rosewood, showcasing the deep, luxurious tones and distinctive swirling patterns that are characteristic of this exotic hardwood. The design reflects Vodder’s refined sense of proportion and subtle detailing, with an emphasis on organic form and elegant functionality typical of Danish modernism.
The table is constructed with a rectangular central section and two drop-leaf ends, creating a flexible configuration that can be adapted according to need. When fully extended with additional leaves, the table reaches a substantial length suitable for accommodating larger gatherings. The top rests on slender, tapered legs that provide a visually light and graceful appearance while ensuring structural stability. The edges of the tabletop are gently rounded, softening the linearity of the form and highlighting the fine craftsmanship.
Arne Vodder, a prominent Danish architect and designer, was particularly known for his work in the 1950s and 1960s, often collaborating with Sibast Møbelfabrik. His designs were noted for their organic shapes, minimal ornamentation, and meticulous attention to material quality and joinery. Sibast Møbelfabrik, a Danish furniture maker active during the golden age of Danish design, produced some of the era’s most collectible and enduring pieces, often characterized by outstanding craftsmanship and the use of premium woods.
The condition of the table is good, with some visible signs of use and age, including minor surface scratches and slight wear, particularly on the tabletop surface. These marks are consistent with the table’s age and do not detract from its strong presence or functionality.
The dimensions of the table are as follows: width 80 cm (31.5 inches), depth 105.5 cm (41.5 inches), and height 72.5 cm (28.5 inches). When fully extended, the table measures 290 cm (114.2 inches) in width.
