Arne Vodder sideboard
The freestanding sideboard model 76 was designed by Arne Vodder in the 1950s and produced by Sibast Møbelfabrik in Denmark. This piece is an exemplary work of Scandinavian mid-century design, combining refined proportions with luxurious materials and a strong architectural presence.
The cabinet is constructed in rosewood with richly figured veneers, showing a deep, warm grain pattern that adds visual depth across its surface. The interior elements are executed in mahogany, while details such as drawer linings are fitted with black leather, a material that enhances both function and elegance. The design is characterized by its long, horizontal form elevated on tapered legs, creating an impression of lightness despite its substantial size. Central drawers with sculpted handles are flanked by sliding doors, which open to reveal adjustable shelving, demonstrating Vodder’s focus on practical storage solutions integrated within a highly aesthetic framework.
Arne Vodder, trained under Finn Juhl, is recognized for his ability to merge sculptural qualities with functionalist principles. The model 76 reflects his dedication to organic detailing, especially in the subtle curvature of the drawer handles and the balance of geometric planes. Sibast Møbelfabrik, with whom Vodder collaborated extensively, was among the leading Danish manufacturers of the period, known for their precise craftsmanship and use of high-quality materials.
This example has been completely restored and is presented in excellent vintage condition, with only small signs of age and use. The restoration has preserved the richness of the rosewood grain and the tactile character of the leather, ensuring both structural integrity and authenticity.
